With every sanction it hastens China's chip industry and eventual independence. Sanctions don't work in a globalised economy anymore. The likes of Russia and China can buy examples from the market, copy the designs etc. It is only a matter of time. The progress China in particular has made with chips is undeniable.

It doesnt hasten anything. The CCP have been throwing money at the chip industry for over a decade. Whether we let them have the chips or not they would have continued to develop a home grown industry. So better to choke everything off because it changes nothing about what they would do.

Tech sanctions only work if and only if:

1) the Chinese must be idiots without any knowledge to develop technology on its own (goes against reality, although many people in the west believe it, therefore doomed to fail).

2) the suppliers/sellers are willing to cut off 30-50% of their sales to satisfy national security concerns. But after the inevitable mass lay-offs at Intel and other suppliers, what good do those sanctions do?

Selling consumer laptops with American designed chips is now "national security"?

Hahaha, you gotta love American attempts at kabuki theatrics just to pretend this isn't good 'ol protectionism.

Rules for thee but not for me, same as it ever was.

How would you balance the need for technological advancement with ethical considerations in international policies?

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2wks2W

Can limiting access to technology, such as semiconductors, be justified if it's in the interest of national security?

How does the idea of a 'tech war' between countries affect your view of global cooperation and peace?

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2wks2W

Do you think imposing such restrictions on chip exports is a fair strategy in international relations?

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2wks2W

How do you feel about the government having the power to restrict technology exports to other countries?
