The ship hit a pillar of the bridge, so someone at the wheel did not pay attention, had power failure, or the vessel was gong too fast to turn in time or both.

Possible. But also reports that there was a failure (electrical) on the boat, which the pilot may not have been able to control. (Point of information: while in Baltimore Harbor, all ships are run by a Harbor-licensed pilot [not captain] who has years of training and experience to do that job in that Harbor.)
So let's see what the investigation turns up. Pilot error? Possible. Ship owners' equipment/maintenance failure? Possible.
Let's allow the investigation to proceed, instead of all us armchair "experts" (not) speculating wildly.
