The individual must determine what to preserve and what to replace. While the government must have the power to protect and support the people, it must not determine which cultural values are to be reinforced or replaced; doing so is a form of thought control and a violation of an individual's autonomy. That said, certain traditional values that are actively harmful to the collective (racism, hate speech, exceptionalism) must be discouraged by the government, and in the most extreme cases banned in order to protect the collective.
