How would you feel about the currency you use every day changing if your region became a separate country?

 @Oryanna-J. from California answered…3mos3MO

I believe the currency we use should be up to the decision of all people. If we did use the same currency I wouldn't oppose but also creating our own currency would allow us to fully sever the ties of the move to our own country. It would give room for us to be truly our own but it takes a lot to do make that change for our currency.

 @9JJT2ZP from Illinois answered…3mos3MO

I'd be pretty upset that all my money is now useless and I have to learn how to interpret a new currency

 @9JJSRTP from Georgia answered…3mos3MO

I think we should just stay on the same currency, just to keep it easy.

If your local sports team was to represent a newly independent region, would it change your sense of pride or support for the team?

 @9KPW4G7 from North Carolina answered…2mos2MO

I think there should be no separatism in sports, because is lowers the opportunities for individuals

 @9KPW3JX from Texas answered…2mos2MO

 @9KPWTKZ from Texas answered…2mos2MO

Not entirely, it is dependent on their reason for relocation of their representation. If they chose to do so, then I would harbor no ill will towards them, nor would I feel a need to support them further and I would hope that they continue to be great. If they were forced to do so, because of whatever exterior forces pushed them, then it would make me wish to support them even further.

How has your personal history and ancestry shaped your views on the concept of having a separate state or nation?

 @9JFCM79 from Louisiana answered…4mos4MO

It has not. The U.S.A needs to correct our various problems prior to getting involved in outer issues, unless it directly affects the wellbeing of our country.

 @9JKPZVY from Tennessee agreed…3mos3MO

We need to stop fighting in wars that do not matter. After Osama Bin Laden was killed, we stayed in the Middle East for years, losing countless American lives for no reason.

 @9JG4QVNDemocrat from Texas disagreed…3mos3MO

Although the US does need to deal with our own issues, but we have to consider that issues in other countries will eventually make it to is soil.

What moral or ethical considerations come to mind when you think of one group separating from another?

 @9HZMSTF from Georgia answered…4mos4MO

I feel separatism is not necessary and take us back in time. Everyone should be able to co-exist and work together regardless of differences. Separatism could create increased resentment and hatred amongst groups.

 @9HZLWKS  from Washington answered…4mos4MO

There is no reason for separation we are all human beings and should be treated like so.

 @9HZLTR4  from Colorado answered…4mos4MO

Separatism should rely on a basis separate from what you are given at birth not including sexual orientation.

 @9HZLQZYGreen from Michigan answered…4mos4MO

Whether they are doing it to oppress someone else, or whether the separation can be peaceful.

Reflect on a time when you felt misunderstood or overlooked by your national government; would independence alleviate these feelings?

 @9HZRRJJLibertarian from California answered…4mos4MO

During the 2016 elections, my parents and I were watching the Trump campaign when we heard him refer to Mexican immigrants as animals. I come from a family of Mexican immigrants. Was I, Montserrat, an animal? Was my immigrant father, whose dream was to come to America, an animal?
Growing up I've always seen my family as a typical Mexican-American family, proud of where they come from but grateful for the land of opportunity. I remember that money was always tight, so my dad took on weekends working extra hours. This caused me to rarely see him. However, no matter how stressed my parents…  Read more

I felt overlooked by the national government when the government decided to go forward with abortion laws almost essentially banning it which made me feel that not many outside opinions or the populations opinion were considered for the most part and only cared for the few with power.

As an Asian woman, I feel that the government is not doing enough to keep me safe against those who feel asian hate.

What do you consider a legitimate reason for a community to want to govern itself independently?

 @9HT79LNJustice party member from Rhode Island answered…4mos4MO

If a community wants to govern itself independently, then the truth of the matter would be that they want to create their laws in that individual community and share ideas for what they want that community to look like.

In your opinion, do the benefits of separatism outweigh the potential for increased division and turmoil?

 @9H7YJQ7answered…6mos6MO

there are few benefits of separatism, and I think the US progresses better as a complete nation

If your local community's primary language became the official language of a newly independent state, how would that make you feel?

 @9KNH6S5Democrat from Pennsylvania answered…2mos2MO

English should be the official language in the United States, but people should be able to use whatever language they would like with friends and family.

 @9KNGS8D from Oregon answered…2mos2MO

I believe a national language creates a large divide in those that don't speak it.

From your perspective, what would be the greatest challenge and the most significant benefit of a successful separatist movement?

 @9LDLGYP from Pennsylvania answered…1mo1MO

Greatest Challenge is the legality, and unity of a separationist movement within the US. I do not see much benefit in separatism. I think it would decrease national unity, legitimacy of federal government, security in North America, and more.

Should the cultural significance of a region play a role in its political autonomy; why or why not?

 @9KLS5FK  from Texas answered…2mos2MO

I think a more federal centric government would be best rather than state centric.
Why? I have lived in Tennessee and Texas and I noticed a LOWER quality of education for Tennesseean kids. These both states are Republicans and yet the standard of education is super varied.
This made me realized to push for more federal ways rather than let states do whatever they want.
I understand some states like Texas want to separate.
I honestly think it's not a good idea for Texas to do this.
